Where is TASClient?!?

I am a bit frustrated that I have to make this newspost, but unfortunately it seems as though Satirik (the current maintainer of TASClient), has decided to stop development. As a gesture, he intended for TASClient to auto update itself and switch the user over to springlobby (TASClients Main Competetor) seamlessly. Unfortunately the transition did not go smoothly at all and caused a very large mess. Contained within this newspost is what you need to know. Thanks Gnome.

What the hell is SpringLobby and Where Did TASClient Go?

SpringLobby is a seperate lobby created primarily by BrainDamage and _koshi_ that works on Windows and Linux. SpringLobby is written in C++. TASClient was originally created by Betalord in Delphi, but Satirik took over development some time ago.

Satirik put SpringLobby in TASClient’s update system. I don’t know why right now.  BrainDamage and Koshi are not responsible for the switch.

Important for all former TASClient users

You should download the latest version of SpringLobby.
Get the latest version here: http://springlobby.info/trac/wiki/Install (click the “latest binary” link if you’re a windows user)
Also get these dll files: http://www.springlobby.info/windows/dll/dlls.zip

Extract both zips you just download to your Spring directory. For example, if spring.exe is installed at C:\Program Files\Spring\, you should extract the SpringLobby files to that same directory so you have C:\Program Files\Spring\springlobby.exe and so on.

SpringLobby tells me online play is disabled because it couldn’t get my Spring version from unitsync and setting the path to unitsync manually in Options doesn’t help

Make sure you’ve followed the instructions immediately above first. If you still have this problem, make sure all of the SpringLobby dlls and the Springlobby.exe file are in the same folder as spring.exe, especially if you’re using Vista.

SpringLobby is slow/freezes, what is going on???

SL will usually only be sluggish when initially loading up when it’s caching mod/map data (or when you refresh it yourself in the Tools menu). If it hangs every few moments, try disabling the torrent system in Tools -> Manually Stop Torrent System and then go to the Options tab, the P2P sub-tab, and click “Manual” for Torrent System autostart. Make sure you hit Apply in the bottom right corner of the screen when you change settings in the options tab.

How do I get rid of join/quit messages?

Right click in the chat and uncheck the “Display Join/Leave Messages” option.

How do I view chat and the multiplayer gamelist/battleroom at the same time?

Click the Multiplayer or Chat tab at the top and drag it to the screen edge you want it at. When the screen turns partially black (see below), release your mouse button and it will split.

Drag like this:

To get this:

Currently this setting is not saved when you exit the program so you will need to do it each time you start it up. Sorry.

How can I switch back?

Rename TASCLIENT.exe.old back to TASCLIENT.exe. Even if you switch back, if Satirik has ceased development, within a couple new engine versions it will be too outdated to use online anymore. So it’s best to try to get used to SpringLobby, to try to help improve it, and most importantly be civil.

  1. ok a few more minor problems … just so if anyone developng the new lobby reads it can fix ;)

    - lots of ppl complain about the chat… in many accounts both the background and font are black by default

    - drag and drop option for multyplayer is ok even if not enabled by default … the problem comes with battleroom … i like the map showing altitude and metal etc. …
the prblem is with scaling – since the battleroom is designed for fullscreen it is really annoying for it to be opened only half screen …. you cant see half of the data written in it

what i’m trying to say is that battleroom would me much better off opening in a new full screen tab even if the multyplayer and chat are in half scren split

    - again considering the battleroom … what’s with the small i’m ready box ?

    - i like the rss news feed in TASClient (it simple and reminds u of what’s new ;) – can u add it to the lobby as well

    - also heard some complaints about the icons but they’re ok i guess ;)

  2. What, TASclient is dead, and i was never informed? then what the hell am i using now :P
